In-home care is something I personally have always been fond of. As a behavioral healthcare professional, I recall the best times of my career was visiting homes. Beyond the coaching through what's going wrong, we often talked about what was strong in one's life. This gave me the feeling of more than a helper, but a Companion. Minor tasks around the home came naturally.

Some day mom will not be able to care for home as she always has,, but loves home. Dad's life of labor has yielded its results. Often these times come when family is not ready. Who will be there? Professional companions like myself Thrive on serving in this capacity. Let us!

We love what we do and stand behind the truth that faith without worx is dead!

If we want to believe it or not, we have an aging generation above us. Those adults we looked up to as tough high school coaches are now feeling the fruit of their past energy. I saw my high school weight training coach recently and realized it is my duty to care for those who have given so much in the past. My heart as many others have been in homes and seen the need for total make overs or at least someone to come in and tidy up a bit. In these home visits we see so much that even family members never had noticed about the person they love.

Like most of us at #fwcompanions, companionship is not only a nice gesture but a time to talk about how we really feel. It's in these conversations we learn that coach is not doing too well with physical, mental or even emotional health. Dementia has set in and a drink here and there has been helping take the edge off which got out of hand. These are things I have personally encountered within my years of home visits.

Family members become so busy in life that they don't have time to sit with mom and listen to her talk and may be considering the crowded group/nursing home setting. Home care workers have stepped in to fill that gap at home. No need to go anywhere. There is a rise of caring people who do this for a living and like it or they wouldn't come. Welcome to the new era of care at home.
